Having dual citizenship allows much more freedom to its holders and the Portuguese Passport is among the most powerful in the world. As of now, those with Portuguese citizenship can count on one more benefit: Portugal has joined the list of countries with a trade and navigation treaty with the United States. This means that Portuguese citizens, including foreigners with dual citizenship, now have a new type of visa to live in the United States. We are talking about the American E2 Visa, the Entrepreneur Visa.

With the treaty, about 400 thousand Brazilians with Portuguese citizenship will be able to apply for an E2 visa to live in the USA. To request the visa, it is necessary to have a reasonable amount of money to invest in the country. Although no minimum investment amount is stipulated, an amount of at least 100 thousand dollars is recommended to open the business, which should also generate jobs.

Residence authorization in the United States is extended to spouse and children under the age of 21. Learn more about this subject.

What is the American E2 Visa?

The E2 visa is aimed at those who intend to become entrepreneurs in the USA, either through their own business or a franchise. It does not allow the bearer to work in another company, only where he has his investments. The investment must be active, create jobs, and be made with own funds.

The visa authorizes the owner to live legally in the United States for as long as he/she follows the business plan presented for immigration, with the generation of jobs, income and payment of taxes. In addition, the investor must be fully dedicated to the business, be the principal investor or an employee in a supervisory, executive, or highly specialized capacity. Unqualified employers are not eligible.

How much does the E2 Visa cost?

The cost of the visa will depend on the type of business you intend to open in the country.

A minimum investment of $100,000 is recommended. It is estimated that the process of acquiring the E2 Visa costs around $150,000. It is recommended to request support from a specialist to assist in the process.

Is it possible to obtain United States citizenship with the E2 Visa?

The E2 Visa does not lead directly to dual citizenship or a green card. Visa applicants can, however, explore some options that lead to permanent residency.
